Bangla Couple – Issue 7: The Great Monkey Heist

Anika wanted a cute zoo selfie. A monkey wanted her iPhone 15 Pro Max. Dhaka Zoo was never the same again.

Zayan and Anika's perfectly ordinary day at Dhaka Zoo turns into a full-scale hostage negotiation when a monkey reaches through the enclosure fence and — SWIPE — snatches Anika's iPhone 15 Pro Max clean out of her hands. Zayan's first observation: "He's probably checking your bank balance." The monkey promptly climbs a banyan tree and goes Facebook Live to 200 viewers. A zoo security guard is unmoved by the husband's plea of being "just a man in crisis." The situation escalates — the monkey mounts a zebra for a scenic content-creation ride, dangles the phone above the lion enclosure (Zayan's GPS recovery plan is rejected), sunbathes on the Zoo Administration rooftop, rejects a bag of low-fat potato chips ("Monkeys have standards"), and gets tagged in a notification from his own newly minted account: @MonkeyKing_Official. Banana diplomacy finally works — he trades the phone for a bunch, drops it, Anika dives and catches it. The phone survived. The storage, however, is now full of monkey selfies, and @MonkeyKing_Official has 87.6K followers on her account. They leave the zoo — Zayan carrying a leftover banana and a question: "Why does my backpack feel so heavy?" Anika: "Zayan... don't look back." To be continued.
